Event Description
NELA Nite: Prevailing Wage Law Essentials
1 CLE Professional Practice

Prevailing Wage laws have been around for over a century, but have expanded far beyond their origin as a way of preventing public contractors from exploiting lower-wage workers from outside the locality of the project. Such laws now require substantial wages and fringe benefits in not only public construction and maintenance projects, but also in service work on a variety of government funded projects.  For skilled workers those wages can top $100 per hour including benefits, giving unscrupulous contractors a strong incentive to cheat.

Jason Rozger and Brenna Rabinowitz, partner and associate at Menken Simpson & Rozger LLP, along with Constantine Kokkoris, Assistant Comptroller for Labor Law for New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and Claudius Sutton, Chief of Downstate Field Operations of the New York State Department of Labor, Bureau of Public Work, will provide all the information you need to understand which workers are entitled to prevailing wages, how to calculate what they are owed, the pitfalls to avoid when litigating these claims, and tips on how to collect from shady contractors.
