Learn the basics about NYC worker protections from attorneys at the Office of Labor Policy & Standards (OLPS), a division of the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP). Senior Enforcement Counsel Johnny De Vito, Senior Staff Counsel Emily Whalen, and Staff Counsel Maria Jennings will walk plaintiff-side attorneys through how to initiate a private right of action, common fact patterns, damages provisions, and damages calculation methods for class-wide violations under the NYC Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law, the NYC Fair Workweek Law, the NYC Delivery Worker Law, and the Freelance Isn’t Free Act. In the past two years, DCWP has recovered over $35 million in monetary relief for workers and nearly $3 million in civil penalties through its workplace-wide enforcement actions under these laws.
