NELA/NY will be hosting a NELA Nite on the proposed EmPIRE Worker Protection Act (A9012 Simon/S541a Hoylman-Sigal). This training will include an explanation of California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) and the proposed EmPIRE Act, discussion of recent Supreme Court and California Supreme Court caselaw interpreting PAGA and its interaction with the Federal Arbitration Act, practical lessons and pointers from PAGA practitioners, and a comprehensive overview of how EmPIRE builds on lessons learned from PAGA. This training will illuminate the ways in which the EmPIRE Act would strengthen NELA/NY members’ ability to enforce the New York Labor Law’s wage/hour, health/safety, and anti-retaliation protections.
